Ambrose Bierce. Black Beetles in Amber (1892), first edition, signed
Bierce, Ambrose (1842-1914?). Black Beetles in Amber. Popular Authors' Series, No. 1. San Francisco: Johnson and Emigh, 1892. First edition, 2nd issue. Original printed wrappers; somewhat worn, rear wrapper lacking. Two contemporary bookseller's stamps. Very good otherwise. In a custom slipcase.
Signed by the author.
A rare remainder binding of this collection of sardonic poems and satirical invective published in the Wasp and other periodicals. Published originally by the Western Authors Publishing Company, the unsold sheets were re-issued in wrappers as No. 1 of Popular Authors' Series. This binding is considerably scarcer than the hardcover, and rather wonderful to see signed. BAL 1111, Starrett 10. In a custom slipcase.
