Jazz monologues signed by Civil Rights artist Tracy Sugarman
Sugarman, Tracy (1921 – 2013) and George T. Simon (1912 – 2001), The Feeling of Jazz. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1961. First edition. 4to. Very good in dustwrapper.
Inscribed by the illustrator: “To Lynn – With warmest and best wishes! Tracy Sugarman”
A volume of dramatic monologues by the great jazz writer (the uncle, incidentally, of Carly Simon), illustrated by an artist-activist best known for his work documenting Malcolm X’s trial, the Mississippi Freedom Summer Project, and other key episodes of the Civil Rights Movement. A fun read – sort of a beatnik analogue to the poems of Robert Browning – and uncommon signed.
