Keith Haring. Coloring Book. (1982). First edition.
Haring, Keith (1958-1990). Coloring Book. [New York: Keith Haring], 1982. First edition. 32 p; 23.5 cm. Fine in spiral-bound wrappers.
A possibly unique example of a rare self-published work by one of the most celebrated artists of the last quarter of the twentieth century. Dated 29 August 1982, the work comprises black and white line lithographs printed on 16 leaves of heavy paper. Unlike every copy that we have seen, which are staple-bound, this copy is in a spiral binding. The coloring book was reprinted as the appendix to the the catalogue of Haring's exhibition at the Tony Shafrazi Gallery. The Shafrazi catalogue was similarly bound, and we suspect that this copy was a trial proof prepared before the catalogue, and before the much more common (but still quite pricey) stapled edition. This is a fine copy, pages unmarked.
